Yesterday was Lacey's one-year anniversary as an owned dog. You wouldn't believe how much she's changed. She still has her spinning/snarling fits when she gets confused (which is much less often, but still a couple of times a day), and she still bites from time to time, again when she gets confused, but all in all she's turning out to be a very loving dog.

One year ago all she would do was lie at the bottom of the bed staring at me in fear and suspicion. Now she's a lap dog and a face-licker.

One year ago I couldn't even get a collar on her to take her for a walk; now morning and evening walks are her favorite time of day.

One year ago she spent all her time at the bottom of the bed; now, as soon as the light goes out, she "sneaks" up to the top, dives under the covers, snuggles up into the hollow of my belly, and stays there all night.

Which is why she bit me the last time. I moved my arm, half-asleep, and she freaked out and chomped down.

Forum: Four-paw delights

Even a story as apparently simplistic as Spider-Man creates, in Doctor Octavius (Doc Ock), a scientific genius whose cruel childhood abuse and crushing sorrows as a young man have formed the distant, heartless adult.
I'm currently watching Dennis Potter's Cream in My Coffee, with Martin Shaw as a lounge-lizardy crooner in an upscale resort hotel in the 1930s. He's quite excellent -- all pencil-thin moustache and slicked hair -- oily but charming. The story is wonderfully honest (and depressing - it's Dennis Potter, after all), about an elderly couple whose love for one another has long since been ruined by resentment. They go back to the hotel where they once attempted a marvelous fling, in an effort to recapture a past that, as we see in flashback, is hardly worthy of recapturing.

Peggy Ashcroft is excellent as the wife who is just barely hanging on.

Forum: The Screening Room

I am reading ''The night circus'' by Erin Morgenstern at the moment and I'd like to recommend this book. It is about two magicians in an everlasting fight about who's the best. They throw their trainees into that race but 'unfortunatley' these two young people fall in love.
This book tells you a lot about the human spirit, puts you in a magic world, has a touch of Victorian England and reminds you of the writings of E.A. Poe. Great stuff!!

Forum: The library
